Common Questions
The cemetery grounds are open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. Anyone is welcome to visit, pay respects, or explore the historic grounds.
Burial, however, is restricted to those within the Joplin Cemetery Maintenance District boundary. If you are unsure whether a property is within the district, contact the sexton.
At this time, all cemetery plots are privately owned. There are no new plots available for purchase directly from the district.
On rare occasions, a plot owner will choose to relinquish their plot. If you are interested in being notified of such opportunities, contact the sexton at (208) 939-2448.
There are a few ways to look up burial records:
- Cemetery Map (this site) — Our plot map (coming soon) will allow you to search by plot number with a name index.
- Find a Grave — Joplin Pioneer Cemetery on Find a Grave has over 1,200 memorial records.
- IDGenWeb — Ada County Cemetery records include a survey of the cemetery with headstone photos.
- Visit in person — The cemetery is open daily. The sexton can also assist by phone: (208) 939-2448.
